Community Engagement Summer Student

Position Type:  Up to 4 Students – Up to 16 weeks / up to 37.5 hours weekly

Start Date:  As early as 7 May 2018 Job Location: Uplands Base – 330 Croil Private, Bldg. 471

Language Profile:  Fluency in English and French -

Preferred Years’ Experience:  Must have relevant work or academic experience


The Community Engagement Summer Student of the Military Family Resource Centre of the National Capital Region (MFRC) will play a key role in the delivery and development of French and English family programs and services designed to meet the needs of Canadian Armed Forces families who reside in the National Capital Region.

Daily roles will vary to provide participation in family engagement, family wellness, child care, IT based communications and administration initiatives through the delivery of a variety of programs and services as well as cultural celebrations including Canada Day and Canadian Armed Forces Family Appreciation Days.


 Must provide proof of current registration with a recognized educational institute

 Fluency in both official languages (Preferred)

 CPR and First Aid qualified (Asset)

 Ability to provide a clear criminal record check (Essential)

 Skills in marketing software including social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter), Constant Contact, WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite programs (Asset) and MS Office programs (Essential)

 Knowledge and understanding of the challenges related to a military lifestyle (Asset)


 Participate in delivery of community engagement programs, services and cultural events

 Participate on the committee for a Canada Day Celebration

 Participate on team for Canadian Armed Forces Family Appreciation Day

 Participate on the MFRC Joint Health and Safety Committee

 Participate in programs and services for military community members: Birth to 18 years and adults

 Participate in French and English language learning initiatives

 Ensure a positive and rewarding experience for participating community members

 Help build positive relations within the team and community participants

 Collect participant information and program statistics as directed

 Provide program feedback

 Proactively recognize and remove all safety hazards prior to the start of programming

 Ensure that all financial documents in paper or electronic format are appropriately stored

 Ensure that all confidential files are stored in compliance with the Privacy Act of Canada, Department of Defence Security Regulations and MFRC policy

 Be knowledgeable of and in compliance with all Centre Policies & Procedures

 Participate in MFRC meetings, events and activities as directed

 Other duties as assigned by leadership
