Arabic & Somali Playgroup
                        CRCBV 40, rue Cobourg
                        Ottawa, ON. K1N 8Z6

Status:            Contract Position (1 position)

                        January 25th, 2018 to March 29th, 2018 – 10 weeks
                        (Thursdays 8:30-4:30pm) 7 hours per week.
                        $20.22 to $24.35/hr. per hour plus 6% in lieu of vacation.


Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Children Youth and Family Services the Early Childhood Educator will facilitate two weekly playgroups, one for Arabic and one for Somali parents, caregivers and children ages 0 to 6 years.


Job Specific Responsibilities

1      Program Support

  • Plans prepares and facilitates weekly learning activities for Arabic and Somali parents, caregivers and children ages 0 to 6 years;
  • Recruits parents, caregivers and children from the Arabic and Somali communities to participate in the playgroup;
  • Provides support and referrals to services for families and children;
  • Maintains updated files and records for all participants and compiles program statistics;
  • Performs other related duties.


Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Attends and participates in team meetings as scheduled.
  • Participates in the evaluation component of the program.
  • Maintains effective communication of information among internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participates in professional development training as appropriate to the position.


Position Requirements:

  1. Education
  • Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education or other equivalent education;
  1. Experience
  • Experience working with diverse communities and sensitivity to multicultural issues.
    • Self-motivated team playerwith good interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.


  1. Personal Suitability/Other Requirements
  • Strong communication and organization skills;
  • Ability to handle complex emotional and behavioral issues;
  • English/Arabic/Somali essential. Other languages an asset;
  • Valid Police Records Check for work with the Vulnerable Sector;
  • First-Aid/CPR AED Certification
