Peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the age of 87.
Beloved mother of Lorraine, Gerald (Jana) and Andrea Karam (Stefan Dickerson).
Lovingly remembered by grandchildren Robbie, Dylan and Halle.
Predeceased by her sister Ophelia (Nick Zaine), and brothers Eli (Virginia) and Albert Shaheen.
Former wife of the late Dr. Frederick Karam.
She will be truly missed by cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends who remain in this world.
Bernice lived a quiet life, but lively in the world she made for her children where she included room in her heart for the many friends and new family members who came into her Alta Vista home.
Always a true lady with a tender heart, a generous and strong spirit, a welcoming bright smile and a youthfulness that never left her, she was loved by all who met her.
In this regard she is survived by loved ones of many generations, and this marks the true size of her legacy.
Visitation at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, on Friday, February 12 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm, and Saturday, February 13 from 10:00am to 11:00am.
Funeral service on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel followed by a reception.
Interment at Beechwood Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in lieu of flowers to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
