Obituary – Martha Salhani

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Martha Salhani
(née Saikaly)
Passed away on Saturday July 2, 2022- two weeks before her 99th birthday.
Her father, Jurius Moussa Saikaly, passed away when she was an infant.  She was lovingly nurtured by her mother, the late Katrina Thaher Naufal.  Her first marriage ended when her husband, Jurius Eyamie, passed away in 1945, leaving her with two sons that she strived to care for by working as a seamstress in Kfarmishki.  When her older son, Saleem, passed away at age 7, she emigrated to Canada and married the late Assaf Salhani who adopted her surviving son.
Much loved mother of Michael Salhani (Mona Ayoub).
Cherished grandmother of Brenda (James Kuffner), the late Emeline, and George (Robin Whitehead).
Great grandmother of Marcus and Alexandra, whom she adored and showered with hugs and kisses at every opportunity.
She was a strong-willed lady who was determined to overcome the adversity and loss that scarred her early life.  She did this with single-minded determination, strength and unshakable devotion to her family.  She lived a dignified pious and honest life, and earned the respect and love of all who knew her.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday July 6, 2022 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral, 2975 Riverside Drive followed by funeral service.
Interment at Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Ave.
A special thank you to the wonderful 3rd floor staff at Garry J Armstrong home, who diligently and expertly cared for her and put up with her feistiness.
In memory of Martha, donations to St. Elias Cathedral  would be appreciated.
