Passed away peacefully Sunday, May 9, 2021, joining his beloved wife, Angele, who surely met him at the gates of heaven. Elia will forever be remembered for his loving warmth, tenderness and generosity. His nightingale voice was a blessing to all, and will always be cherished.
He is survived by his son Michel, daughters Huguette Barakat (Moufid), Helen Abraham (Peter), and son Nabil (Lilliane). Also survived by his brothers George (Deebeh), Mahfouz (Claudette), and sister Thérese El Helou (Tony). Predeceased by his parents Chaaya and Wardé, brother Antoine (Leila) , sisters Georgette (Joseph Abou Eid), Marie  (Fares Kassab) and Rose (Jamil Karam).
He was Jiddo to his 10 grandchildren, who were always the apple of his eye, Ziad, Fadi (Sandra), Marwan (Minya), Kristina (Joseph), Angela (Paul), Ryan, Branden, Marisa, Zachary and Jasmine. Also blessed to be Big Jiddo to his 9 great grandchildren , Olivia, Roman, Theodore, Ella, Mia, Sebastian, Austin, Gia and Selena, as well as many nephews, nieces and extended family and friends. Elia was a devout Christian , with deep faith to St Charbel and was one of the founding members of the Ottawa Maronite Church.
Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, a private  funeral service will be held for the immediate family on Thursday May 13, 2021 at 11:00 am at  Saint Charbel Parish, Ottawa, Maronite Catholic Church and streamed live online at  the Church’s Facebook
