Mary Joan Hanna
July 14, 1942 – August 8, 2021
Passed from this world back to God on Sunday, August 8, 2021.
She had been a resident at the Centre d’herbergement La Pieta in Gatineau, Quebec for the past couple of years.
Born at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, Quebec to Alya and Wakide Hanna.
Youngest of five children and the only daughter,predeceased by her parents, her brothers Emile Hanna and Lawrence Hanna as well as sisters in law Marie Hanna, Lucy Hanna and Widad Hanna.
She leaves behind her brothers Ronald Hanna and Albert Hanna and sister in law Francoise Hanna as well as her nieces and nephews and friends.  Mary Joan’s family would like to extend their unending appreciation to her special friend, Ralph Landry, who helped her, and helped the staff at La Pieta take very good care of her.Mary Joan learned at an early age to speak up for herself. She trained as a secretary and worked her way up to being a civil servant.  She even spent some time in Russia working for the Canadian Government.  She retired from Public Service for the Government and the people of Canada after 38 years.
She enjoyed being with friends and family, dining out and cooking Lebanese food. Mary Joan was a fanatic film fan and knew about all the classic movies and movie stars.  She was an avid reader and her collection of books was second to none.  One of her favourite movie stars and singer, Frank Sinatra, became known for the song “My Way” and that is what Mary Joan did. She lived her life her way! Godspeed Mary Joan.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 10:30am at St Elias Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral, 2975 Riverside Drive, Ottawa, Ontario K1V 6N1 followed by funeral service  at 11:00 am.
Interment Beechwood Cemetery.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, distancing and face mask regulations are in effect.
In memory of Mary Joan, donations to St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral would be greatly appreciated.
