Obituary – Salim Chahine

Salim “Sultan” Chahine 

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Salim in Ottawa, Ontario, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at the age of 93.

Born in Zahle, Lebanon, to the late Youssef Chahine and Mariam Lahoud. Salim was a devoted husband of Nouha Ayoub, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage.

He was a loving father of Rania, Riman (Ronaldo Chartouny), and Eman, and a proud grandfather of Tiana and Alani, all of Ottawa.

Salim is survived by his siblings Barbara (late Karam Karam), Elias, Tony (Dalal), Michel (Jeannette), and Sr. Solange.; predeceased by Mona (Fares Richa), Jean (Hanane) and George.

Dear brother-in-law of Adel Ayoub (Thamine), George Ayoub (late Rita), and Raghida; predeceased by Fares, Nazim and Salma (late Mike Ayoub).

He will also be dearly missed by his many relatives and extended family in Canada, Lebanon and Australia, as well as by the many friends whose lives he touched and upon whom he left a lasting and positive impact.

The family will receive relatives and friends at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, ON, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and  on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.  followed by funeral service at the chapel.

Salim will be laid to rest at Hope Cemetery, 4660 Bank Street, Ottawa, where he will be loved and  remembered always.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Salim’s memory to Sts. Peter and Paul Church  would be appreciated.
